What a pleasant surprise to see not one but two huge eaglets in the nest this morning. I’m so relieved that my guess last week that one had died was wrong. They both look strong and stout, and a corrected guess at their age puts them at about 8 or 9 weeks.
This video shows the two huge young eagles during the first minute. You will also see a happy dance of one of the eaglets as the parent approaches, although I’m not sure food was delivered. There was some self-feeding going on, so I know there is food in the nest.Young eagle showing impressive wingspan and powerful legs.Grown up feathers have all but replaced the down the young eagle hatched with. Here are the two big kids crowding each other in the nest. The one on the left is facing the camera, the one on the right is facing away. At this size we should be seeing some serious flapping practice starting soon. They’ll start “branching” (hopping to nearby tree limbs on short practice flights) soon and in another 3-4 weeks they’ll fly.
